How the Schedule Works
Anime Club meetings will typically consist of three anime blocks: Officer’s Choice, Member’s Choice, and the Variety Slot. With re: to anime, we won’t show you anything extremely controversial (such as Elfen Lied), anything pornographic (i.e. no Hentai), or anything over fifty-two episodes long (so no Bleach or Naruto). Also, in addition to all that anime goodness, each meeting will play host to ‘Officer Programming’ – which are essentially special events, often with prizes attached! I will now discuss the different anime blocks and how they are determined:
- Officer’s Choice: Before the beginning of the semester, your officers will get together and determine a semester-long series to screen in its entirety. Typically, this series will be one that’s considered an essential part of the anime diet… something popular and rightly so, or perhaps something good yet underexposed. Nonetheless, you can be sure that it’s worth watching! The series for Fall ‘09 is as-yet undetermined – keep an eye on this space for the latest!
- Member’s Choice: During Friday Night Live and Welcome Back Week, we will poll current and prospective members on their choices for a semester-long series. The most popular picks will be drafted into a formal ballot, voted on during the first meeting, and shown over the course of the semester. The series for Fall ‘09 is as-yet undetermined – so come by our FNL of WBW booth and weigh in with your opinion!
- Variety Slot: Randomness! We’ll preview shows from the current Japanese lineup or from recent seasons. And if we ever stumble on something you wanna keep watching, there are two choices – check it out from our library, or vote to keep it on the Variety Slot!
- Officer Programming: Anime Club is more than just anime! We’ll be livening up meetings with events like Gaming, BBQ/Field Day, Trivia, Crafts, Cosplay, and much, much more! Please write us if you’ve any suggestions for future programming or thoughts on improving the current line-up, or if you’d just like to help out! Volunteers are prized!

Subs or Dubs?
At UNM Anime Club we watch anime in its original Japanese audio with the aid of English subtitles. That’s how we’ve always done it, and that’s how it’s likely to stay. If you’d like to watch the English dubs, we sometimes have R1 DVDs available for checkout in our club library. Or you could just appeal to us personally and with due justification.
