…Is how far you’d have to go – by car and kayak – to get to Okinawa, Japan. OR you could show up at the SUB atrium between 12:00pm and 1:00pm this upcoming Tuesday and bear witness to a slice of Japanese culture, performed for your benefit and without any admission fee. You’d have to be crazy not to attend! Here’s the spiel, straight from our pals @ Japanese Club:
So, a group from Okinawa is going to be here on the 18th of August, and they have asked the Japanese Club to be/help get an audience for them. You don’t have to show, but it sure would be nice. And it’d be even better if you could bring friends or tell people about it. These guys are going to be performing the three-stringed instrument, and giving a shodo demonstration as well as some other demonstrations. Though it supposed to end at 1, it may go on longer. [...] Let’s make sure these guys’ long hours of practice was worthwhile.
Yes. Let’s.

Say hello to the new Anime Club Forums!
The InvisionFree forums have long been acquiring an air of stagnancy, so this Fall, we’ll be rolling out a new message board system = one that’s fully intergrated with our WordPress installation, so you won’t have to juggle two different accounts in order to comment on the blog and post on the forums. The old forums are still there if you ever get those pangs of nostalgia for the light blue InvisionFree layout, but I encourage everyone to miagrate to the new boards using your existing blog account – it’d be nice if we could drum up a revitalized interest in online member interaction!
There may yet be some kinks to work out, but at least the site is functioning! G’wan, make an introduction topic. You know you want to.
Oh, and I updated the Officer’s Page with pictures. Busy, busy.
I’m installing a fresh version of WordPress and bringing us up to date with all the plugin gears that make anime dot unm dot edu what it is. I’ve never done this before, so bear with me if things go weird for a little bit. When we’re back, you should see a familiar look. And some new forums. Stay posted!

A resounding “Thanks!” to everyone who gave their time yesterday as a volunteer extra! Due to your efforts, we were able to amass over $500 for our Self-Gen account… and you can bet that we’ll be pouring it all back into club for this Fall and beyond! And remember, if you have any thing you’d like to see for Club, let us know! and we can try and make it happen.
Anyways, now that the work is done, all that’s left is the After Party! After tomorrow’s club meeting, which I imagine will be par for the course for summer meetings (2-6pm; Cherry/Silver), we’ll be having the Thank-You dinner across the street at Saggios! The food will be courtesy of Anime Club; the least we could do after you guys slaved all day on our account! And for those club members who didn’t or couldn’t make it to the shoot, you’re welcome to come along and hang out – but the tab will be your own.
Mock-Schedule for Friday’s Mock-Meeting is after the link. Cheeeeeeeck it out!:

UNM Anime Club’s holding a special kind of fundraiser… one that’ll allow you your very own slice of silver screen fame. Next Tuesday and Wednesday, they’ll be shooting a “Comic Con” scene for the movie Paul here in Albuquerque, at the Convention Center, and they’ve asked Anime Club if we wouldn’t mind loaning them some extras.
So here’s where you guys come in. The movie will be shooting for around 12 hours each day, starting EARLY. I’m ballparking that we should get there around 5am, but the exact time has yet to be decided. If you’ve got some time, and the desire to be in the movie while at the same time, helping Anime Club, let us know ASAP. As in, if we don’t have your intent to participate, your name, and your phone number by 12:00noon this Friday (08/07/09), you’ll have missed the boat.
Anime Club will be throwing a Thank You party after the shooting is over to show our appriciation for you guys, so let us know if you wanna help! And do it fast…! All the gritty details follow the link, so hit it if you’d like to know more before joining up, or if you’d like to know exactly how things are gonna go down. Thanks to everyone in advance!

In preparation for the new semester, I’m gonna be adding some new content and updating some old. By the end of it, you should have a good idea of where Club stands, and where we stand to take it for the upcoming Fall and beyond. To whet your appetite, I’ll allude to a brand-new forum, a new meeting structure, the rollout of our Anime Library, and the advent of weekly Club Activites that aren’t just screenings.
In the meantime, I’ve got a small update. The banner’s been changed to give the site a nice, Fall ‘09 feel, and the Officer’s section has been updated to include a questionnaire. So if you want all the jucy details, head on over to the Officers Page… photographic evidence upcoming. Heh.
Let me know in the comments what you think about these changes as they progress, and what you think we should prioritize as a club. Remember… we do it all for you guys!
…And welcome to the UNM Anime Club site! We’re a University-based organization dedicated to exploring the deeper facets of Japanese Animated Pop Culture… At least, that’s what we might tell the University-type inquirers. We’re more about watching anime, playing games, and just having fun!
That’s not to say we don’t plumb a little deeper, though. In store for the upcoming semester, we have Contests (with prizes!), Field Days, Artistic Workshops, Cosplay Events, Anime and Manga How-To’s, and much, much more! Be sure to keep an eye on this webspace and/or REGISTER with our site to receive the weekly newsletter.
Our first meeting of the semester will be August 29th, from 4pm until 8pm in the University of New Mexico Student Union Bldg. You needn’t be a UNM student to come and enjoy what we have to offer, so come check us out! And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us – we’re addicted to email. Fire one off to anime@unm.edu
Embrace your inner otaku!
The amazing blog updater strikes again with some amazing info!
There is a meeting tomorrow (06/26/09) from 2:00pm -5:30pm in Santa Ana A/B.
That is all.

Another officer meeting tomorrow (that’s Thursday) in the Anime Club office (SUB Lobo Lair 1031) from 4-5:30. And another general club meeting the day after tomorrow (that’s Friday) from 2-5:30. The location for the club meeting is still TBA, so check back Thursday night for the final say on that.
UPDATE: We’re meeting in Acoma A/B; 3rd floor of the SUB this Friday. Bring yer summer enthusiasm!
As I demonstrated last time, summer meetings will be loosely structured, but more-or-less free game… hangout-time. And hey, if anyone has any anime they’d like to suggest, lemme know in the comments! I don’t have anymore Kawaii Jenny (damn), but there’s more Basara, more K-On, and–if you guys want–some more Hetailia.
I’m also thinking of holding a Gurren Lagann marathon next week, with maybe a break for lunch. Who would go to that?
The schedule is a lie:

Can you really wait another 2.5 months for another Anime Club meeting? Well, we couldn’t, so we’ll be having our first Summer Club meeting this upcoming Friday! Due to the stifled summer hours of the SUB, our meeting will be held earlier in the day. So that’s Friday, June 12th from 2pm until 6pm in FIESTA A/B!
We’ll be watching Ouran High School Host Club in addition to whatever else you guys wanna see off of my Hard Drive! We won’t have much of a schedule (summer meetings aren’t that structured!), but we will have anime, board games, and some discussion! It’s sure to be fun, so take a break from your summer and see your Anime Club!
Also, we’ll have an officer’s meeting this Wednesday from 4:30pm until 6pm in our new office, located in the Lobo Lair, room 1031! Lotsa inside developments! And lotsa more stuff to discuss! You should be there (esp. if you’re considering running for an officer position come Fall)!
Pretend schedule after the break!
