So, we’re still getting the licensing for this week’s anime, so expect a post about this Saturday’s club activities in the near future. For now we have a special announcement to make!
On March 10th, 2012, we will be having our Anime Club cosplay contest! So get your costumes ready because the grand prize is $50 off of our Fanime trip!
More details after the jump!
So let’s start with what everyone’s probably most interested in, the prizes!
1st Place: $50 off of our fanime trip this semester!
*Not going to fanime? Don’t worry, we’ll have an alternate grand prize for those of you that aren’t going, so feel free to enter!*
2nd Place: $10 gift card to Jo-ann Fabrics and Crafts.
3rd Place: A prize of your choice from the UNM anime club prize box!
So now that we got your appetite whet with the prizes, lemme go ahead and explain the rules of this thing.
Unlike last year’s cosplay contest we won’t be putting the votes in the hands of the people attending club. Since our prize is actually pretty awesome this time, we’ll be having a panel of 3 judges (no, we won’t be telling you who the judges are so that you can suck up to them and their tastes :p).
Outfits will be judged on the following criteria:
Technical Merit, Accuracy, and Wow Factor
The contest will be run largely like a walk-on at an actual convention. If you’d like specific music or pre-recorded dialogue to play for your walk on rather than just striking a few poses, feel free to coordinate with me by e-mailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org or texting me at (808)387-1412… or… just coming down to the lobo lair (I’m almost always there and if I’m not there will be someone who knows how to get in touch with me.)
Music clips and pre-recorded dialogue is not to exceed 15 seconds.
These 15 seconds will be your chance to showcase how well you can personify your character, which will be taken into account for your score for accuracy as well as wow factor, so it’s greatly encouraged to have music or dialogue and a walk-on routine.
After your walk-on, the judges will ask about the outfit if they have any questions. These questions will largely be used to determine your technical merit score from each of the judges. This is your chance to impress us with all the hard work you’ve put into your costume.
After all the contestants have done their routines, the judges will deliberate and select the winners.
*IMPORTANT: COSTUMES ORDERED ONLINE OR OTHERWISE PREMADE ARE NOT ALLOWED!*
We want to see what YOU can do, not how much money you’re willing to put down on a costume or how good your google-fu and ebay searching skills are.
So get to making those amazing costumes and we’ll see you in a month for the contest!
