Set-Up at 12:00 noon If you have a station you can volunteer (TV, Wii, and Brawl), or if you want to get some friendlies matches in for practice, that’s the time to show up!
Registration at 1:00pm We’ll be registering for both Teams and Singles starting at this time. We’ll be cutting off team sign-ups at 1:45 so that we have time to draw up the bracket, but Singles registration will be ongoing until the team matches have finished.
TEAM Matches at 2:00pm gl hf
SINGLE Matches take place AFTER TEAMS Depending on the number of entrants, this could be earlier or later. A good rule of thumb is to show up a little early – around 3, 3:30-ish – if you want to play in Singles but not in Teams.
The nitty-gritty rules are after the link. Yummy!
UPDATE: The rules have been changed to reflect the following last minute revisions:
The Chain Grab limit is set to 5 MAXIMUM, not 300% as it was originally
There is a planking (jumping off, then re-grabbing the ledge) limit of 5 per instance. If – at the end of the round – a player has amassed more than 50 “planks,” they forfeit the round.
Hey Anime Club! Sorry for the lack of an email update last week – let this one serve as a remedy. (If you’re still not getting an email, or getting multiples, let us know! and we’ll work our listserv magic!)
Thanks to everyone who attended and dressed up for Cosplay day! We don’t have any photos of the costumes to show you – but I guess that just means it was a “you had to be there”-type of experience, huh? I missed it too, so I share your pain. Anyways, a big thanks to resident cosplay officer, Kim, for setting everything up and running club in my absence!
Last Saturday aside, this upcoming weekend is gonna be Big! How Big? Movie Screenings, Conventions, Anime Club, Fall Festivals, and whatever else you can manage to shoehorn in (like Magic prereleases)! Yeah. That kind of Big.
Thursday, Sept. 24 @ 7:30pm is the one-time only theater screening of the EUREKA 7 MOVIE! The film will be shown at 3 different locations in Albuquerque – Century 14, Four Hills, and Cottonwood 16. There’s a facebook event for your perusal; and a link to buy tickets. It’s anime on the big screen – bigger than the projector screen even! How can you resist?
Friday, Sept. 25 – Sunday Sept. 27 is OTAKU MEX, the return of Albuquerque’s first Anime Convention! Check out the site! Marvel at the facebook event! You can still pre-register for 2 and 3 day passes, so far as I can tell, so check it out! I’ll be there at the convention on Friday night, spreading the good word of Anime Club, so give a holler if you see me ’round!
Saturday, Sept. 26 @ 4:00pm is ANIME CLUB – CRAFTING ED.! You never want to miss this – We’re gonna be doing awesome-type DIYs, which only the lamest of people would want to miss. Japanese calligraphy, origami, drawing, doodling, comic edits, and more?! We’re trying to organize some sort of contest too, so definitely be there if you think you’ve got the chops! Naturally, we’ll have the latest in Fruits Basket and Samurai Champloo, so you can get your anime fix fo’ sho’.
Sunday, Sept. 27 from 10:00am – 6:00pm is AKI MATSURI – JAPANESE FALL FESTIVAL. Held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (Google Maps), this festival highlights Albuquerque’s distinctive Japanese community with food, performances, informational tables, sales booths, martial arts demonstrations, professional shodo, and sooo much more, all for the meager price of $3.00? I’m already there. Hit our facebook event if you wanna carpool!
Aaand that’s what’s in store for this weekend. Hit the comments, or the many facebook links, and tell us about what you’ll be doing – we’re curious to know! If you still desire more information, then hit the break for Saturday’s anime schedule! Wacky.
Thanks everyone for a bang-up Field Day! We had an enjoyable ordeal organizing it, and we hope you guys had a fun time in the sun time! There’s still plenty of leftover food, and we’re in the midst of figuring out what to do with it all. So keep an eye on this space to know the latest!
Also, it’s come to my attention that some of you might not be getting the weekly emails? If that’s so, PLEASE email anime@unm.edu to be checked and added to the mailing list. You wouldn’t wanna miss out on crucial information, such as this past Saturday’s foray into the wild.
Speaking of, photos follow the break. If you want them with my super special awesome comments, hit this link for the facebook album!
This Saturday’s Schedule is Important and Varied Enough to make the Main Post Body. Here goes!!!
1:00pm Treasure Hunt! Meet at the Duck Pond, and bring your Dora Explorer beads – we’re looking for treasure! Here’s how it works: We’ll split you into teams, give you clues and a map, and send you on your way ’round the Duck Pond and Zimmerman Plaza. The first team to find all the treasure wins eternal glory (And maybe a little something else)! If you haven’t yet signed up – please leave a comment so we know how much to hide!
2:00pm BBQ/Potluck. We will migrate to Lower Johnson Roosevelt Park to grill dogs and burgers. Will there be chips? Drink? Potato salad? That’s for you guys to decide – bring foodstuffs to help feed your fellow club members! We’ll be able to station stuff at the Duck Pond prior, so don’t let your potluck chow weigh down your bid for treasure @ 1! Remember, it’s POTLUCK, so make mention of what you plan to bring in the comments so that we don’t end up with 1000s and 1000s of plastic sporks.
?:??pm Club-As-Per-Usual. Once we’ve had our fill of food and the outdoors, we’ll head back into the SUB and watch some anime. Fruits Basket, and more in store! Also, if you missed out on membership last week, this’ll be your chance!
7:00pm Rakugo. We’ll be breaking club up early so that those of us interested can go see some Japanese comedy. A fitting end to our wacky-long day. Hit the break for a more detailed description of the Rakugo event.
Again! PLEASE leave a comment if you can help with grub, or if you wanna sign up for the treasure hunt! Weekend, ahoy!
Update: We lagged a bit in securing Lower Johnson, so after the Treasure Hunt, we will make way for Roosevelt Park for the Potluck! Don’t worry, we promise that it’ll be just as much fun!
Facebook group here. We’ll be field tripping 9 just because, so come with us and have a grand ‘ol time! Showing’s this Wednesday (tomorrow) at the Century 14 Downtown. Time will be 7:00pm. If you want to guarantee yourself tickets, we’ll be buying some tomorrow in advance… stop by the Anime Club office with $10 to get in on this! Oootherwise, we’ll see you there!
P.S. If you need a ride, drop your phone number. If you can offer a ride, say so!
It’s Labor Day weekend, but fret not! Anime Club will be on as per usual. We’ll be watching anime, playing games, and doing Anime Jeopardy! We’ll get the anime out of the way first, then break for games. Anything goes, so bring your cards, your board games, your handhelds, and your consoles!
But first, the winner for Member’s Choice this semester is Samurai Champloo, so look for it on the schedule once we hear back on the topic of permissions (i.e. not quite yet)! We may have to play “catch up” with an extra episode here or there, but trust me, it’s worth the wait!
Oh! And we’ll be doing membership dues and sign-ups for next week’s scavenger hunt (spoiler)! So be there if you want to get your name on either list… be there! Information on joining can be found here.
Added some new photos from FNL and this semester’s first meeting after the post-break! If you ever take any of your own photos at the meeting, and wouldn’t mind seeing them on the website, please send them to me at anime@unm.edu! And a reminder, we’re be doing Club Lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Lobo Lair outside our office. Time’s 12-1pm… Hopefully we’ll see you there!
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12pm - 1pm is Lunch in the Basement! Bring your bento box to the SUB Basement; Lobo Lair Rm 1031 and chow down with Anime Club. You can come just to hang out too! We're cool with that.
---
Our next club meeting is Saturday, Nov. 21st from 4pm - 8pm in Lobo A/B; 3rd Floor of the SUB. Nothing special this week - but come by and enjoy your regularly-scheduled Anime Club with all your friends! There will be NO MEETING the week of Thanksgiving Break - have a happy Turkey Day, everyone! ---
ANIME LOS ANGELES Our next convention field trip is ALA, from Janurary 7-11, 2010! Hit the link for all the details!
