Monthly Archive for April, 2009

Thank you kindly.

Just wanted to send out a short thanks to all those who showed up for the tournament, especially those who helped with equipment. Thanks for making this event a success!

Giga Drill Brawler

Brawl Tournament this Saturday! Head a couple ‘a posts down on the site for full details. We’re modifying some of the rules in keeping with a fairer–yet still competitive–atmosphere. Final changes will be available on the rules sheets at the tourney, but the condensed version is as follows:

  • Planking maneuvers (Dropping, then re-grabbing the stage edge) are capped at 5
  • Grab-release and standing chain grabs are banned.

Be sure to bring your own controllers to minimize loans, and if you can help us with a set-up (Wii and TV, or just Wii), we’d be eternally grateful! Sign-ups are at 1:00 on the SUB Mall Level! We’ll see you all there!!!

In Anime news, The Gurren Lagann movie is now available subbed through the regular channels. Part 1 of–I guess–2. It’s just as awesome as the series was, and there’s some new footage and some merged/cut plots to help with the time condensation. Relive the the GAR!

As for Club, it’ll take place as per usual in the room adjactent to the tournament, Fiesta A/B. There wasn’t a poll this week, but we’ll be showing our regulars as well as some stuff that’s fared well in the past. Don’t miss it! (Schedule’s up next).

The Three A.M Update

Anime Club! Osu!

Next week’s the Brawl Tournament! Check the previous post for more info, and we’ll see you there? If anyone wishes to help advertise, stop by the office today and we’ll hook you up with fliers–as many as you want, and then some.

This Saturday, we’ll be watching Toradora and xxxHolic. Sorry to all you fans of Nodame and Maria Holic and White Album. If there’s enough of an outcry for these shows, I might just make special time for them in the upcoming weeks. ;)

For those as fanatical as I am, there’s a New Haruhi Episode on the Kadokawa channel. It looks exactly like old Haruhi, but there’s 1 minute 30 seconds of new footage interspersed throughout. I swear, this company hates its fans. :/

Spring season’s in full swing. My picks for this season as well as EVERYTHING ELSE I’VE EVER WATCHED are viewable on my newly-created MyAnimeList. If you’re brave enough to tally the days of your life devoted to anime, make your own! Post it in the comments if you do. :P

Schedule’s up next. Stay tuned:

Anime AND Video Games? Surely you jest!

A giant slice of Pepperoni and a quart soft drink for 3.99? I'm there!

This weekend will mark the return of the Break Room to Fiesta (after we couldn’t have one last week due to our being in the Ballroom). For all those who spend a significant amount of time within it, I encourage you to bring your consoles and games to share with- and entertain others. We’ll be going for a more member-supported room with no limitations in re: to what you can bring–be it Video Games, Board Games, Card Trading Cards, Manga, Sketchbooks… anything!

(This also means that I’ll be dialing back my weekly contribution to the Break Room. I’ll still bring in my house’s consoles from time to time… just not every week as I have been.)

In other news, we’ll be having a second FANIME meeting this Saturday during Intermission. So if you going, and couldn’t make it to the first on Tuesday, make sure and and be at club at 6:00! I have packets of information and questions that I need to ask all the attendees.

That’s it for now! The schedule follows:

Rollover Anime

The Ballroom was quite the change of pace… Did you guys like it, or no? Lemme know in the comments!

For this weekend’s meeting, we’re giving you guys a couple ‘a new options. First is Y-Quart, which involves a psychic detective, a superheroine, a conjurer, and a regular guy. They fight crime. Second is White Album, which introduces us to the lesser-known problems of dating a rising Idol. I’ve not seen either of these, so feel free to educate me. :)

Youtube opening clips follow the break:

Volunteer Work; Club Play!

Hey all!

This Saturday is the Hunger Cleanup! We’ve created an Anime Club team and it would be really awesome if we could get some of our members to join us at the SUB Atrium, 9:45am sharp, to help the cause! To sign up, just follow this link and navigate to the University of New Mexico. From there, select Anime Club as your team and fill out the required forms!

Also, we’re making plans to have one last Brawl tournament to finish out the semester! Details will follow en masse during the upcoming week, but know that it’ll be on Saturday, April 25th, and that the format will follow what we’ve done in tournaments past.

I’d also like to remind everyone of our officer meetings every Thursday night. We’re discussing changes and improvements to Anime Club, so if you’d like to help or offer ideas, come on by!

And last before I post this weekend’s anime, note that we’ve changed the Intermission structure to grant 15 minute mini-intermissions between each of the beginning two and ending two anime. When accounting for the 30-minute block in the middle, it still adds up to 1 hr. So yeah… It’s probably easier to digest with a schedule. We hope to see you at the SUB tomorrow!:

Hunger Cleanup, Anime Club Style

OK, I’m kind of shaky on the details right now, as per usual, but this Saturday we’ll be doing a little volunteer work. I’m pretty sure it’s before club, and I absolutely know it’d be wonderful if we could get some awesome people to help out.

As far as I understand, the plan is:
1. We meet up in the morning.
2. We travel to some destination in need of our help.
3. We do one of the following: painting local shelters, planting community gardens, repairing and cleaning food banks, and construction.
4. The world is a bit of a better place :D

Until I have more info, here’s the website: http://hungercleanup.org/index.html
If you check it out, I’m sure you’ll agree it seems like a wonderful program. I’ll be there ^^

FANIME Update

Those of you who signed up for FANIME should have received two emails by now. One confirming your registrant account creation, and a second confirming a payment of $55.00 made into said account. If you signed up with us and didn’t get one or both confirmation emails, let us know immediately so that we can look into it.

With that over and done with, we can finally start working on the bits and bytes of the road-trip! Keep an eye on your inboxes, Fanimephiles!
