Fumoffu! Returns!!!

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! is back on the schedule! ‘Nuff said.

…At least on that topic. On another, Anime Club now has an official Facebook group, so join up and invite your buddies! We’ll endeavor to keep the group just as informed as the blog, but the website will remain your best bet for the latest news and so on.

Note also the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament coming up. This’ll be our first big fundraiser for the Fall, with most of the funds going towards our library, and future conventions. So if you’d like to help with advertising, organization, or whatever, drop us a line! We appreciate assistance!

Also, Aki Matsuri snuck up on us! If you’re not learned to the details, it’s an annually-held Japanese festival with anime, music, martial arts, taiko drumming, food, and so much more! It’ll be held at the Hispanic Cultural Center on 4th and Avenida Cesar Chavez this Sunday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, and it’s only $3 to get in! If anyone would like to attend as part of club, see me this Saturday!

And without further ado, the schedule! (after the link)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Threedux

Our biggest event last semester was, without a doubt, our twice-held Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tournament. Well, it’s back… and we’re keen on making the tourney our best yet with some new rules, some great prizes, and – as always – lots and lots of fun and competition to be had!

Here are the basics:

  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl Singles (1v1) Tournament; semi-competitive.
  • Held Saturday October 4th, 2008 in Lobo A/B; 3rd Floor of the UNM Student Union Bldg.
  • Registration begins at 2:00 pm and goes through 3:00 pm, which is when match play starts.
  • Entry fee is $5.00 per player. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 competitors.

As for the rules:

  • 3 Stock Match Play
  • 8 Minute Time Limit
  • Items set to Off and None
  • Double-Elimination, Best 2 out of 3 for qualifiers; Best 3 out of 5 for finals

UPDATE: As per popular request, we have changed the bracket structure to Double Elimination. Also, Rainbow Cruise removed from counterpick selection. These will be the last changes to the tournament.

The Potential for Destruction

Fourth meeting this Satuday! Note that we’ll be in a a different set of rooms: Mirage/Thunderbird and Trail/Spirit. The room change is only temporary, and we’ll be back to Lobo and Fiesta next week. As for the meeting itself, we’ll have anime and games as per usual, but in addition (!) will be our Club roundtable, our first real Meet n’ Greet, the vote for our Club Logo, and the opportunity for those of you who have been coming regularly to opt in for official Anime Club membership!

According to the Anime Club Constitution and Bylaws, recently revised and uploaded, attendance to three meetings is all the qualification required to join! Membership is quite free, and while we don’t require you become a member to attend the meetings, club status entitles you to the Sonic discount on Saturdays, access to the club library, and a cool membership card! Trust me, you want in on this.

Just real quick, the roundtable will be your opportunity to converse with the officers and let us know what you’d like out of club. We’d also like to get to know you all, and for the members to get to know each other, so be sure to show up at the beginning of club or you’ll miss it! And don’t worry… we won’t bite, scratch, or put you on the spot, all we’re looking to do is build a more communal atmosphere.

And before I cut to the schedule, don’t forget that tomorrow is the deadline for the club logo contest! We’ll vote for the winner during Intermission, so have your entries ready by then at the latest!

Wha-pdates?

Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu is on hiatus. Couldn’t tell you why, but ADV Films has been incommunicado regarding screening permissions for the past couple weeks; add this to the fact that their website is down due to Hurricane Ike, and we’re left with little choice but to put off showing the rest of the series, at least for now. Sorry! >_<

In the meantime, we’ll have Black Cat take up its stead. And as for the rest of Saturday’s schedule, there’s a new poll up full of fansubbed, unlicensed anime goodness. No screening permissions required there, so vote for a show this week and watch it this weekend!

Speaking of this weekend, we’ll have a couple different things going on to keep it fresh:

The first, which will take place at roughly 2:00pm Saturday, will be a round-table club discussion. Myself and the rest of Club’s officers will be laying out plans for the rest of the semester, and your input will be welcome and valued. So if you’d have any ideas for club and its direction, be sure to voice them!

Second, the judging of the Club Logo contest, will happen during Saturday’s Intermission (4:30). All club members are invited to take in an eyeful of the entries, and select that which is deemed most worthy of the glorious $25.00 RightStuf! gift certificate. I can’t wait to see what you’ve all come up with!

And if you’re an angelic artist or a devilish designer who’s not yet considered entering the contest, get in on it! There’s no entrance fee, and you have nothing to lose!

Seriously. We’re giving away $25.00. Give it a shot! :D

New anime descriptions follow after the link:

Potatoes That Go “Wan Wan”

Third meeting this Saturday! Be there or be…

5:30 Dennou Coil Episode 3 and 4

6:15 Gurren Lagann Episode 5 and 6
Screening permissions courtesy of Bandai Ent.

7:00 End of Screenings
Video games will still be going, though!

~~~
Note the absense of our poll’s winner, Black Cat. Well, we haven’t forgotten how much you guys enjoyed it, so we put in an order for the second DVD and a request for permissions to show some more episodes! Next weekend’s screening schedule will host episodes 5 and 6, so look forward to it! In the meantime, enjoy our flashback to opening week’s line up. Deja vu liek wut.
I’d like to remind you all that next week is the deadline for our Logo/Mascot competition! $25 in Right Stuf! cash is nothing to scoff at, and it could all be yours if you come up with the winning new design for UNM Anime Club! I’ve put a few contest details up on the forum, so check it out if you have any questions.
And one last thing: We need your help! If you’d like to assist us here in Anime Club, we’re looking for honorable folk to fill the following positions: Advertiser, Webmaster, Public Relations, and Librarian. If anyone’s interested, and would like some more details, send us an email or leave us a comment.
And even if you don’t want to commit to a position, you can still help out by suggesting killer ideas, playing “roadie”, or contributing to the library! We’ll see you all at the meeting!
Operation Anime Survey 1
For those of you who were present to the screening of Black Cat last Saturday, I highly encourage you to fill out Operation Anime’s online survey concerning the title. It takes just under a minute, and it shows our appreciation to Funimation, who generously provided us with the DVD free of charge. Thanks!
For the first question on the survey, the name you should use is mine: Justin Brough.
New Record!
Blows the old post length record outta the water!
Word Count: 1231
Thanks to everyone again for a great meeting! There’s a lot of topic to cover, so let’s get crackin’!
Anime Library
First, as I mentioned, we’re kick-starting an Anime Club library this semester. The library will allow club members to check out and enjoy anime and manga at their leisure. So if you’re really interested in a show we watched once in club, or if you’d like to follow up on a manga recommendation, we’ll be able to supply!
We’re still in the planning stages as far as policy goes, but one thing is clear: we need contribution! So if you’ve got some DVDs or manga you’d like to make available, please contact us!
Logo/Mascot Contest
We’ll be accepting entries for our club mascot to be incorporated into our logo until September 20th (that’s in roughly two weeks). So if you’ve got an artistic streak, give it a shot! There’s no entrance fee, and the prize is a solid $25 Right Stuf Gift Certificate!
We prefer entries scanned or otherwise digital, but you can also submit them to our Anime Club office (SUB 1049), mailbox (SAC #56), or directly to an officer during a club meeting! Good luck to the participants!
*No fanart, copyrighted, or offensive material please. Original work only.
And Finally…
Anime. There’s a new poll up with some of the old and some of the new. The asterisks next to some of the poll options (*) denote an active U.S. license, and signify a short delay in-between being optioned and being shown in club (due to the time it takes for us to obtain screening permissions from the company). So please keep that in mind…
Descriptions for all of the anime choices (yes, all of them) follow after the jump!
