Thanks to everyone for making it an awesome election – and sorry for all the reruns. :p The elected officers will assume their [new] offices at the beginning of the Spring 2010 semester. That in mind, the Officers Page has been updated to reflect the current executive board. Take a look if you haven’t seen it yet!
We’ll be doing some fundraising for club in the upcoming weekends, wrapping gifts at the Rio Rancho-area Barnes and Noble. If you want to volunteer some time to club and practice your present ribbons, let us know in the comments!
That’s all for now! The week’s schedule follows the break!:
Yeah. Elections for the Spring/Fall 2010 semesters are tomorrow! Come and vote for the future of Anime Club! You’ll need to be a paid member to vote, but we’ll be doing last minute sign-ups before club if you still wanna turn in your dues!
On tap for election day, we’ll have our regularly scheduled anime, the presidental debate, and a short speech session before each position is voted on and decided, so you guys know what each candidate is all about. We’re gonna end it all with gender-bending anime, Kampfer. Yeah.
Before I jump into election stuff, I thought I’d share some good news with you all! Our appropriation bill went through, so for those of you going (or interested in going) to ALA this Janurary – we’ll be giving you a discount from our original quoted price of $150 – it’s now only gonna cost $100 per person! Amazing, right? Anyways – if you want to sign up to the trip in light of this information, let us know!
And without further adieu, this Saturday’s schedule (and the officer candidates).
Hey Club! Just a short email to illustrate the topic header.
1. The T-Shirt Contest Deadline is this Friday! Please submit your design to anime@unm.edu or drop it by SUB 1031 during our office hours! If you can’t be bothered to get it in before Saturday, the absolute last minute deadline is 3:00 pm on Saturday – bring it by the club office!
2. Speaking of Deadlines, the ALA $50 down deposit deadline is this Saturday also. We’ll take cash or check (made out to UNM Anime Club). The paperwork will be there to fill out – and again – if you want to go but can’t quite make the deadline, let me know and we might be able to work something out!
3. Elections are coming up! Next Saturday (Nov. 14th), we’ll be electing the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Relations, Advertiser, and Librarian! If you’re looking for a way to be more a part of Club, this is it! If you’re interested in any of these positions – send us an e-mail at anime@unm.edu. A brief description of what each position entails follows the link – check the website!
That’s all there is for now~ We’ll keep you posted and see yah Saturday!
We’re finally at the weekend, and as usual, we’ve got the goods this Saturday. Moeso than usual, actually, since this Saturday is Halloween. And Halloween means it’s time for our annual Halloween party co-hosted by Japanese Club!
We’ll have pizza and refreshments provided, but it’s also a POTLUCK! So bring those halloween treats to share! And if the food isn’t enticing enough, feast your eyes on all that’s in store. It’s quite worth your while!
Our Annual Cosplay Contest! Show off your stuff – whether it’s a cosplay or a halloween costume – for a chance to win eternal glory and some fabulous prizes!
Non-Stop Karaoke! That’s right – for the first time ever, we’ll have a dedicated karaoke room, set up by our local KJ, Laura! Japanese songs, mainstream hits, and Disney – it’s all there! So come belt some tunes!
Pumpkin Carving! Held in the Karaoke room, we’ll have pumpkins and tools to do your Jack-O-Bidding! No prizes here, but extraordinary efforts will make it to the website.
J-Horror! It wouldn’t be Halloween without some scary film fare, and we’ve got it at the ready!
Scary Video Games! Resident Evil! More Resident Evil! Seriously, though, bring ‘em if you got ‘em.
So come check it out – it’s all free! We’ll be in Lobo A/B, Fiesta A/B, and Acoma A/B… See you there!
Hey Club! Hope you all had an excellent Fall Break! Here’s how we’re ringing in the 2nd 8 weeks!
1. Anime Los Angeles Convention Trip Sign-Ups! Saturday, we’ll be doing a presentation to inform everyone of how we swing this convention thing. There’s no rush to commit, but we’d like it if everyone who has a glimmer of interest in going to ALA with us could make themselves known! The website has more details.
2. Membership Cards! You asked for them; We got them (Even if it did take the better part of the semester)! For everyone that paid to be a member – you’ll now be able to flaunt your Anime Club status wherever you go – earning discounts at the SUB Sonic on Saturdays and at Lobo Anime & Comics on Tuesdays. Oh, and you’ll be able to check out Anime and Manga from our library also. :3
3. The T-Shirt Contest! …is postponed until November. We haven’t had enough entries to make a contest outta this, so it’s on hold until after Halloween. So C’mon, guys! Put those artistic muscles to work and create some awesome T-Shirts!
4. Maid Café Bake Sale! What’s this? The Anime Club Maid Café committee is putting on a bake sale next week on Wednesday and Thursday from 11am – 2pm in Zimmerman Plaza. Stop by, buy some noms, and fund next semester’s Maid Café! What’s the Maid Café? Don’t be shy and stop by the booth to ask; Otherwise you’ll have to wait until Feburary!
‘Course, we got more in store than just that. Follow the link for Saturday’s schedule for starters!
Field Trip!!! Similar to our FANIME trip this past summer, UNM Anime Club will be attending ALA – an anime convention going down during Winter Break. Where is it held? When is it happening? How can I sign up? The answers to there questions and more after the break! Get excited:
The weekend already? AND it’s Brawl day? Damn, time moves fast.
It’s Brawl day tomorrow (Starting at 1:00pm in the SUB Ballroom), but we’re still gonna have your regularly-scheduled Anime Club programming! Be sure to come by and watch some anime with us in Lobo A/B is you get tired of the tournament scene. If the tournament scene’s your thing, however, we want you! Anime Club will be needing volunteers to judge matches, as well as stations to play matches. So if you’ve got a Wii/Brawl/TV setup you can bring, or just lots of time to spare, be there at 12:00 and make yourself known!
We’re beginning a T-Shirt design contest that’ll extend through Fall Break (They’ll be no meeting next weekend, btw) so that you artists will have time to work! ^^ The winner will be voted on and announced October 24th! What motivation do you have to participate? For one, you get to practice your artistry; for two, you get to show off your work; and for three – if your drawing wins – you’ll get THREE (count ‘em) free shirts with your beautiful design to keep, sell, or give to your friends and family. WOW!
Interested? Here’s the details!
1 or 2-sided design (for front and/or back of T-Shirt)
Anime Club related (i.e. design incorporates our name)
Maximum 2 colors, excluding background color (to save on printing costs)
Other than that, it’s all you! Please submit completed designs to anime@unm.edu or to the Anime Club office during our normal office hours. Ganbatte!
And, without further adieu, this weekend’s schedule (after the link):
Club! Sorry for the late-ish update. I’ll try to keep this short in order to get it in your inboxes asap.
Saturday’s NOSTALGIA DAY! So bring your Pogs, your Pokemon Cards, and something for show-and-tell – we’re kids again (in spirit)!
In keeping with the theme, I’ll be bringing crayons and anime lineart for us to color. We’ll be doing show-and-tell (bring your latest and greatest!), and playing old-school video games in the game room, so bring your 8 and 16-bit consoles to share!
Also! We’re planning our first convention trip of the new school year: Anime Los Angeles! Be there this Saturday and express your interest if you wanna road trip with us over the winter break. Next Friday’s Fall Frenzy also, so we’ll also have info on that. All in all, you DON’T wanna miss this weekend’s meeting!
Schedule follows the link. We’ll see you Saturday!
Set-Up at 12:00 noon If you have a station you can volunteer (TV, Wii, and Brawl), or if you want to get some friendlies matches in for practice, that’s the time to show up!
Registration at 1:00pm We’ll be registering for both Teams and Singles starting at this time. We’ll be cutting off team sign-ups at 1:45 so that we have time to draw up the bracket, but Singles registration will be ongoing until the team matches have finished.
TEAM Matches at 2:00pm gl hf
SINGLE Matches take place AFTER TEAMS Depending on the number of entrants, this could be earlier or later. A good rule of thumb is to show up a little early – around 3, 3:30-ish – if you want to play in Singles but not in Teams.
The nitty-gritty rules are after the link. Yummy!
UPDATE: The rules have been changed to reflect the following last minute revisions:
The Chain Grab limit is set to 5 MAXIMUM, not 300% as it was originally
There is a planking (jumping off, then re-grabbing the ledge) limit of 5 per instance. If – at the end of the round – a player has amassed more than 50 “planks,” they forfeit the round.
Hey Anime Club! Sorry for the lack of an email update last week – let this one serve as a remedy. (If you’re still not getting an email, or getting multiples, let us know! and we’ll work our listserv magic!)
Thanks to everyone who attended and dressed up for Cosplay day! We don’t have any photos of the costumes to show you – but I guess that just means it was a “you had to be there”-type of experience, huh? I missed it too, so I share your pain. Anyways, a big thanks to resident cosplay officer, Kim, for setting everything up and running club in my absence!
Last Saturday aside, this upcoming weekend is gonna be Big! How Big? Movie Screenings, Conventions, Anime Club, Fall Festivals, and whatever else you can manage to shoehorn in (like Magic prereleases)! Yeah. That kind of Big.
Thursday, Sept. 24 @ 7:30pm is the one-time only theater screening of the EUREKA 7 MOVIE! The film will be shown at 3 different locations in Albuquerque – Century 14, Four Hills, and Cottonwood 16. There’s a facebook event for your perusal; and a link to buy tickets. It’s anime on the big screen – bigger than the projector screen even! How can you resist?
Friday, Sept. 25 – Sunday Sept. 27 is OTAKU MEX, the return of Albuquerque’s first Anime Convention! Check out the site! Marvel at the facebook event! You can still pre-register for 2 and 3 day passes, so far as I can tell, so check it out! I’ll be there at the convention on Friday night, spreading the good word of Anime Club, so give a holler if you see me ’round!
Saturday, Sept. 26 @ 4:00pm is ANIME CLUB – CRAFTING ED.! You never want to miss this – We’re gonna be doing awesome-type DIYs, which only the lamest of people would want to miss. Japanese calligraphy, origami, drawing, doodling, comic edits, and more?! We’re trying to organize some sort of contest too, so definitely be there if you think you’ve got the chops! Naturally, we’ll have the latest in Fruits Basket and Samurai Champloo, so you can get your anime fix fo’ sho’.
Sunday, Sept. 27 from 10:00am – 6:00pm is AKI MATSURI – JAPANESE FALL FESTIVAL. Held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (Google Maps), this festival highlights Albuquerque’s distinctive Japanese community with food, performances, informational tables, sales booths, martial arts demonstrations, professional shodo, and sooo much more, all for the meager price of $3.00? I’m already there. Hit our facebook event if you wanna carpool!
Aaand that’s what’s in store for this weekend. Hit the comments, or the many facebook links, and tell us about what you’ll be doing – we’re curious to know! If you still desire more information, then hit the break for Saturday’s anime schedule! Wacky.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12pm - 1pm is Lunch in the Basement! Bring your bento box to the SUB Basement; Lobo Lair Rm 1031 and chow down with Anime Club. You can come just to hang out too! We're cool with that.
