Nya~! T-shirts and Memberships week :3

Lets go back in time! Ghosts!

Let's go back in time! Ghosts!

Hey everyone :)   Hope your school years are still heading in the right direction and all that jazz.  More important that all that schooling nonsense, however, is the fact that memberships are totally coming up this weekend– not to mention those t-shirts you weirdos were promised!  We’ve taking the lovely Rain’s design and are putting it on a shirt just for you, because we now you want to parade your nerdiness.  We know it.

More about this week after the jump.

Anime Club Field Trip!

LLAD Mascot Cassie is proud I remembered how to put pictures up, but I still make her nervous.

Hello my little Chickadees.  I do hope your semester is going well so far– and if it isn’t, here’s a little something to make it better.  Now, I know you all loooove anime club (right?  right?), so you may be a little sad to hear that there is no official club this weekend, but never fear!  The reason club isn’t on campus this Saturday is because we’ll be driving down to go to Las Cruces Anime Day!   That means a few hours of road trip, a one-day-only con, and one night in a hotel having a slumber party with all the coolest kids around!  It’s like a mini-con trip for those of us who missed ALA!  Now, I’ve got class this weekend, so I’m going to miss out.  So don’t be lame like me!  Go have fun, if just for a day.

If you are not signed up for this already, than your either need to contact us with god speed by tomorrow or find another way down.  If you missed the announcement at club, sorry for the late notice!  If you are signing on…  please tell me you have a car :)  We need another driver if we get more folks!

More details after the jump, which is after I figure out how to make a jump.

First Meeting of the Semester!

Hey Clubbers!

Anime Club is back this semester with BIG plans! To give you a taste of what’s lined up: we’ve got field trips, maid café, game days, dances, karaoke, jeopardy, coloring, fandubbing, cosplay, J-Dramas… and if that’s not exciting enough, we’ll be doing no less than SIX anime movie screenings in the SUB theater! Membership is as valuable as ever!

We’re kicking it off this Saturday with our Post-ALA, Pre-Las Cruces Anime Day Con meeting! We’ll reflect on our trip to Los Angeles, and plot next weekend’s excursion to Southern New Mexico! Also, discussion/debate on which con we should go to come summertime, FANIME or A-Kon?

We’ll also be changing up our anime screenings, with 3 NEW series EVERY WEEK! Instead of our old semester-long series commitments, we’ll watch what’s fresh and keep on with what we like. This will allow for a ton more reflexiveness with re: to what we show (and less stagnancy).

It’s all for you guys, and we can’t wait to see you all back this Saturday from 4-8 pm in the SUB 3rd floor; Room Lobo A/B! Hit the break for some hints of what’s in store for the meeting, anime-wise:

Signs of Life

sleep

We’re alive.

SO! A lot’s happened since last we updated, and a lot’s on the horizon. I’ll try and cover most of the past stuff… the e-mail later tonight should highlight the future stuff. Ready? Ok, go!

First off, ALA. As any attendee will assuredly attest to, we had a great time at the con, and on the way there and back . Several of our members cosplayed, and we all came back with many a souvenir. I didn’t take too many photos (fail, I know) but luckily, David was there to pick up the slack! The ALA gallery is after the break.

Secondly, our elected treasurer Rob won’t be assuming his office this semester due to school, work, and related stresses. But it’s aaaaawwwwright, since former treasurer Kim has agreed to retake the position for this semester. It’ll be like she never left!

Thirdly, we won’t be doing the Lunchtime Fun Hour this semester… we’re trying to create a more work-centered environment in the Lair, so our office policy is changing from ‘open door’ to ‘please knock’. That’s not to say you’re not welcome to come by, say “hi,” and chill a while — you are! — we just need some time to be productive too. >_< Office hours will be posted next week, as soon as we figure them out.

Um. Lastly, I wanna announce a change in how we screen anime. This semester, instead of watching an entire season of a series, we’ll be featuring new anime every week… THREE new anime series to be exact. And if you’re interested in watching more–the titles will be available in our library! This is monumental… new anime every week? Why would you ever miss club? :p

Anyhow, it’s good to be back, and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday, 4-8 in Lobo A/B as usual! Be there!!!

Thanks for the wonderful year!

Gunbuster!

I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank all you wonderful Anime Club members for the great semester. Without you we just wouldn’t be the same (I would still watch anime, but alone, possibly crying when the light slips through the blinds and burns my skin).

This is the end of the semester, but not the end of club! We’ll be back next year with more anime goodness.

–ALA updates will be on-going for those of you who have signed up.

Tokyo Godfathers – Impromptu SUB Screening!

Hey Club!

If you’re vigilant enough to catch this before 2:00 pm Monday, November 30th, you should head down to the SUB Theater for a FREE ANIME MOVIE SCREENING! We realize that this falls in the realm beyond last-minute notice, but we’re mainly doing it to prove to ourselves that we can, what with out last two botched attempts at utilizing the theater for anime purposes…

Ahem! Tokyo Godfathers is a holiday film by Satoshi Kon – a perfect anime kick-off of to the Christmas season. Here’s a description of the movie, taken from AniDB.net:

In Tokyo Godfathers, three homeless people – Gin, a former professional bicycle racer; Hana, a transvestite; and Miyuki, a run-away young girl – live together in Shinjuku, Tokyo. On Christmas Eve, the three discover a baby girl at a garbage dump. They head for the brighter parts of the city, where people are enjoying the holiday festivities, to look for the baby’s parents. While the three search for the parents, uncanny luck results in their meeting other people while their adventures with the baby continue. Will the baby lead these three protagonists to their destiny? This small adventure lets each of the trio confront their own lives, which they almost threw away, while maintaining their dignity and happiness under unfortunate circumstances.

It’s a great movie – so you should come watch! Bring your pals! Again, that’s 2:00pm in the SUB Theater; Monday, Nov. 30th.

We’ll see you there! Continue reading ‘Tokyo Godfathers – Impromptu SUB Screening!’

OMG, a Post!

You know what’s awesome?  Saving things as drafts instead of posting them!  Haha! HAHA! HA.  HAAAA.  … Here ya go!  Pretend I sent this last week!

‘EY.  ‘EY.  What your name is?!  Wait, what?  What is it?  Ok, you still remember.  Anyways, if you successfully remembered your name, you should totally take it and write it down as a volunteer for this here fundraiser we are doing.  Because I know you love gift-wrapping.

If you don’t plan on helping out this week, then Happy Thanksgiving but I don’t love you as much.  Since there is no club this week, you’ll so be missing us until Workshop day.

Here’s the times and who is working, so you can pick someone totally rad to work with or something.

Officer Elections this Saturday!

Yeah. Elections for the Spring/Fall 2010 semesters are tomorrow! Come and vote for the future of Anime Club! You’ll need to be a paid member to vote, but we’ll be doing last minute sign-ups before club if you still wanna turn in your dues!

On tap for election day, we’ll have our regularly scheduled anime, the presidental debate, and a short speech session before each position is voted on and decided, so you guys know what each candidate is all about. We’re gonna end it all with gender-bending anime, Kampfer. Yeah.

Before I jump into election stuff, I thought I’d share some good news with you all! Our appropriation bill went through, so for those of you going (or interested in going) to ALA this Janurary – we’ll be giving you a discount from our original quoted price of $150 – it’s now only gonna cost $100 per person! Amazing, right? Anyways – if you want to sign up to the trip in light of this information, let us know!

And without further adieu, this Saturday’s schedule (and the officer candidates).
